This intensive is for folks who are ready to write. The intention is for writers to move from ideation to completion of at least a first draft of a book. It will require strong intention and focus, writers must be ready to work. Facilitation is by award-winning author, reviewer, and children’s literature researcher Breanna J. McDaniel, PhD
It will cover:
Idea Generation, where do I start?
Character development, the "Whos" of your story, starting broad and narrowing your focus.
Page turns and arc build-ups, two of the most critical elements for a picture book text to capture the whole story within the restraints of the genre.
Wrapping up the story, knowing when to review, revise, reset, and when you've completed the text.
Also included:
Writing Prompts
Starter Templates
One Manuscript Review
I think it’s important for all my courses to provide some historic and contemporary context for why, how, and where our ideas may be converging to create our art right now. Pretty much everything I do within children’s literature, including my writing and reviewing, is fueled by my researcher’s curiosity and this workshop will probably be tinged by that experience as well. Please note that in advance of signing up for the workshop.
To gauge interest, there will only be ten spots open for this first workshop, but if it looks like it could be a good fit for the writing community in Atlanta, I’ll open up more levels for the workshops and maybe see what else we can cook up.
$150 per person, 10 spots only
